# Algeciras - Getares — Algeciras, Spain

Playa de Getares, in the Algeciras bay, with views of the Rock of Gibraltar. It is a wide beach open to the east that works only with strong Levante in the Strait, and is usually an alternative when it blows over 30 kt in Tarifa. The wind comes in very onshore, which is why it is a spot for intermediate or advanced riders. With Poniente the wind is offshore and it is not recommended to go out. From 15 June to 15 September kitesurf is not allowed. Access is easy from the Getares road, with parking next to the promenade. Watch out for maritime traffic and anchored ships in the bay.

## Local winds

- **Levante** — E (90°), 15–35 kn. Strong Levante from the Strait. It comes in almost head-on to the beach and is usually lighter than in Tarifa.. Very onshore wind: little safety margin, not suitable for beginners.
- **Poniente** — W (270°), 15–35 kn. Poniente: blows from the land towards the bay. It is not a recommended riding condition.. Offshore wind: risk of being drifted towards the centre of the Algeciras bay.
