# Bariloche - Lago Moreno (Playa del Viento) — San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina

Playa del Viento, on Lago Moreno, about 13 km from the centre of Bariloche, is the other beach in the city where people kite. The lake is smaller and slightly warmer than Nahuel Huapi, with small waves and a bit of a shorebreak.

The westerly thermal wind enters towards the beach, funnelled between the hills: on sunny days from November to March it is steady and strong; on cloudy days it arrives very gusty. The southerly wind comes down from the hills: do not go out.

The beach is shared: the municipality has a bathing area with lifeguards, and in 2024 kiters requested a designated sector about 100 m from the boat ramp, towards Cerro Bellavista, to set up, launch and land away from swimmers. Until there are signs, set up in that sector and do not ride in front of the bathing area. There is parking at the end of Calle Del Remanso.

## Local winds

- **Térmica del oeste** — W (280°), 15–35 kn. The mountain thermal: from November to April it blows almost every day, with 20 to 30 kt average and some days 35 to 40 kt. At Lago Moreno it enters towards the beach, funnelled between the hills: on sunny days it is steady, on cloudy days it is very gusty.. It picks up quickly and gusty in the afternoon: have a small kite ready. The lake water is about 14 °C in summer, wear a wetsuit.
- **Sur** — S (180°), 12–30 kn. Southerly wind: comes down from the hills towards the lake, gusty.. Offshore and gusty wind: do not go out.
