# Caucaia - Praia da Tabuba — Caucaia, Brazil

Praia da Tabuba is the open sea beach to the east of Cumbuco, upwind: quieter than Cumbuco, with more chop and waves, good for wave kite and as a starting point for a downwind to Cumbuco beach. You launch on the sand to the northwest of Barraca Tabúzios, a beach club with pools on a breakwater.

It works with the trade wind, which blows almost daily from July to January, strongest in September and in the afternoon. From the east it comes in side-onshore; from May to July it turns southeast, blows almost parallel to the shore and is more gusty. If it turns further south it becomes offshore: then go to another spot. From February to April is the rainy season and the wind is less consistent. It is best at low tide, when the beach is wider.

Watch out for the rock breakwater in front of the barraca, which is upwind of the launch, the shorebreak and swimmers near the barraca. To the northwest the beach narrows in front of houses with walls. 2.5 km to the southeast is Lagoa da Tabuba, with flat water. In case of emergency call 193 (fire brigade) or 192 (SAMU). The best time is from August to December.

## Local winds

- **Alísio del este** — E (90°), 15–28 kn. The trade wind that blows almost every day from July to January, strongest in mid-September and in the afternoon. At this beach it comes in side-onshore, along the shore towards the west-northwest: it pushes towards Cumbuco, which is downwind.. Launch to the northwest of the barraca breakwater, so that the rocks remain upwind. The drift goes towards Cumbuco along the shore.
- **Alísio del sudeste** — SE (125°), 14–24 kn. At the beginning of the season (May to July) the trade wind turns east-southeast and southeast, it is usually lighter and more gusty in the morning. Here it blows almost parallel to the shore.. If it turns further south, above about 140°, it becomes side-offshore and takes you away from the shore: go to another spot.

- **Barraca Tabúzios**: Beach club with pools on the breakwater, next to the launch. Name according to the kitejungle guide (approximate position).
- **Rock breakwater**: Breakwater in front of the barraca, upwind of the launch. Do not ride or land nearby.
- **Itacupa**: Pousada about 100 m from the beach.
- **Lagoa da Tabuba**: Flat water lagoon 2.5 km to the southeast, next to the CE-090 bridge.
