# Dénia - Les Deveses — Dénia, Spain

The northern tip of Les Deveses, in Dénia, next to the mouth of the Molinell river (barranc Racons) which separates Dénia from Oliva. It is one of the best-known kite spots in the region: in spring and summer it brings together kiters of all levels and hosts the Spanish Kite Race Championship.

The wind is the thermal breeze on afternoons from March to September, from the southeast, which comes in side-on at this northeast-facing beach; if it veers south it becomes side-off. In autumn and winter the gregal and Levante bring waves and the Poniente blows offshore. The sand is wide and the water is shallow, good for learning.

Rules: in summer, riding is done through the buoyed channels of Les Deveses; the regional nautical guide identifies the one at the mouth of the Racons as the most suitable for kites. Beware of the river breakwater, about 200 metres away, and its current after rain. There are schools in Les Deveses, lifeguards from June to early October, restaurants, a campsite and parking in the streets next to the Les Marines road.

## Local winds

- **Garbí (térmica)** — SSE (150°), 12–20 kn. The thermal breeze on spring and summer afternoons, from April to October: it comes from the sea from the southeast and provides calm freeride with some chop in the late afternoon. In Dénia it blows from March to September; at this northeast-facing beach it comes in side-on and, if it veers south, side-off.. If it veers south or southwest (Llebeig) it becomes side-off: do not go far out.
- **Gregal / Llevant** — ENE (60°), 15–30 kn. Northeast and east winds from autumn and winter storms: they come from the sea, stronger and with waves.. Swell and currents near the shore; only with wave experience.
- **Ponent (terral)** — W (260°), 12–35 kn. The winter Poniente wind blows offshore on this coast: gusty and pushes out to sea.. Offshore wind: do not ride with it.
