# Martínez - Costanera — Martínez, Argentina

La Costanera de Martínez is a grass park on the coast of the Río de la Plata, in San Isidro, with the river open towards the northeast. Kiters and wingers set up their gear on the grass, about 40 m from the shore, and enter the water through the clearings in the reed bed that borders the coast.

The wind that works best is the sudeste, side-offshore, with 15 to 25 kt and especially from September; the este also comes in, blowing onshore. The pampero, from the southwest, and thermal winds blow offshore and are dangerous: they take you away from the coast and there is nowhere to return. The water is choppy and shallow, with little current, and the river is polluted. There are nautical routes more than 1 km from the coast and many people on the grass at weekends.

There is free public parking about 190 m south, next to the playground, and the restaurants Kite Beach and Malloy's about 330 m away. There are no showers; the nearest chemical toilets are about 640 m to the southeast. The photos and video are provided by the person who created the spot.

## Local winds

- **Sudeste** — SE (135°), 15–30 kn. The wind of the spot: comes in from the sudeste along the coast, side-offshore. It is the one that works best in the northern Río de la Plata, with 15 to 25 kt, especially from September. With the sudestada it picks up strongly and brings more waves.. Comes in side-offshore: head out with a margin and do not move away from the coast in light wind. With a strong sudestada the river gets choppy and the water level rises.
- **Este** — E (90°), 12–25 kn. Wind from the este that comes from the river towards the coast: it is the most comfortable for returning to the shore. Works with an afternoon breeze.. With the wind blowing onshore, the reed bed on the shore and the rocks are downwind: do not return to land outside of the clearings.
- **Pampero** — SW (225°), 15–35 kn. Wind from the southwest that comes down from the land: here it is offshore, gusty. It builds up quickly after a front.. Offshore wind: pushes you out into the river and there is nowhere to return. Do not go out with pampero or with offshore thermal winds.
